Starlink is not an ISP you will reach out to if you live in a big city that has fiber internet. But it does not claim to compete with the top fiber or cable internet providers anyway. Instead, it fills a huge gap for people living in remote or rural areas where traditional broadband options are limited or unreliable. Really depends on your local internet. Overall ... Starlink is *amazing* compared to the older satellite options, but generally still lags behind proper wired internet (cable or fiber). Starlink has gotten to the point where latency is barely noticeable (one of the big problems historically with satellite internet) but we found that it still struggled a bit in bad weather / heavy precipitation. On sunny days it was great.

Our Insight: Hughesnet & Viasat have a lower barrier to entry with cheaper equipment and good customer service, but they are more suitable for basic internet use such as browsing, email, and light streaming. Starlink, while more expensive in comparison, is still the best option for users in rural/remote areas who do not have good fiber or cable options.
