Having trouble with the Xumo Stream Box, remote, or mobile app? Most of the time, it’s a tiny glitch that doesn’t need the attention of a technician. I’ve dealt with a few recurring Xumo streaming issues myself, and I’ll share how to fix them in a snap!
Common Xumo Streaming Issues and Their Fixes
Here’s a list of routine Xumo-related issues with their fixes to help you resume your streaming session ASAP:
1. Xumo Activation Code Not Working
Activation of Xumo requires you to input a 6-digit code that is retrieved fromxumo.com/activate; the activation code is only valid for 10 minutes. If the displayed code doesn’t work, here’s how you generate a new one:
- Remove the power cable from your Xumo Stream Box and TV
- Plug in both devices after 15 seconds
- Following the restart, revisit the activation web address and try again with the new code
- If you don’t receive a new code or the new code doesn’t work either, reach out to customer support
2. Xumo Stream Box Not Powering On
So you plugged in the Xumo Stream Box as usual, but it didn’t power up. You may have fumbled with the button on the bottom of the box, but to no avail. The thing is that it’s not a power button, which is why you should leave it alone.
Here’s how you can troubleshoot the power problem:
- Check all the cables (power, HDMI, and Ethernet) to ensure that each of them is connected properly
- Try connecting the Xumo Stream Box to a different power outlet/extension and see if it is switched on
3. Blank Screen
When your Xumo Stream Box is powered on, yet all you see is a dark screen, this means the device has entered standby mode. Follow these steps to wake up Xumo and continue streaming:
- Hold your remote close to the Xumo Box and press the Home button
- Wait 15 seconds; if nothing happens, check the HDMI connection
- Switch to an alternate HDMI cable or confirm that you chose the correct source input
4. Freezing or Buffering
Frozen screens and buffering are quite the nuisance when you’re trying to relax and enjoy your favorite show. Holdups during streaming can be due to a glitch in the Xumo app or poor Wi-Fi connectivity. Bear in mind that Xumo requires uninterrupted internet to function smoothly, so:
- Try closing and relaunching the app
- Check your Wi-Fi signal strength, and relocate closer to the router if possible
- Switch to Ethernet cable connection for faster and stable internet
5. Wi-Fi Connectivity Problems
Sometimes the Xumo Stream Box doesn’t seem to detect or connect to the home Wi-Fi network. This could be happening because you previously connected it to an alternate network, such as your mobile hotspot. The issue may also arise from pending updates or problems with your internet service.
- Firstly, verify that you’re connected to the right network and that your home Wi-Fi is working fine on other devices; if not, try power cycling your modem and router
- Consider switching to Ethernet if there’s nothing apparently wrong with the Wi-Fi
- Finally, head over to com/usb-update and check if your Xumo device needs to install the latest firmware
6. Unresponsive Remote Control
You press the power button on your remote control, but the TV remains blank, and you wonder why. Typical reasons for this happening include an obstruction in the way, worn-out batteries, and pairing errors.
- Start by getting closer to the TV or adjusting your aim to overcome any hindrance
- Check the light on the top of the remote; if it isn’t green, a change of batteries may solve the problem
- Go to settings and check if the remote is paired with your device; if not, a reset or re-pairing is required
7. Xumo App Not Working
At times, the Xumo Play app takes too much time loading and fails to launch successfully. This could be due to an unstable internet connection or pending updates.
- Close and re-open the app
- Check for updates if you haven’t enabled auto-updates
- As a last resort, delete and then reinstall the app on your device
