Self-Installing AT&T Fiber

Here are the steps to follow for self-installing AT&T Fiber. Please ensure to follow these accurately so you the connection is successfully installed:

Installing the Service Box

The first step is to install the AT&T Fiber Service Box. The Optical Network Terminal (ONT) service box connects your network to AT&T Internet. You’d need to mount it in your basement or garage and connect the wiring in the following manner:

  • Connect the Green Fiber Connector to the Green PON Port.
    • Wait for the Power Lights on the PON Port to turn Solid Green.
  • Connect the Red ONT Ethernet Cable into the Service Box Ethernet Port.
  • Connect the Power Cord in the Service Box and the other end to an electrical outlet.

While doing so, ensure not to look at the end of the fiber connector, as it can cause eye damage. Also, ensure that the Power Button (on/off) is pressed on the Service Box.

Connecting the Gateway

The next step is connecting your AT&T Gateway. The good thing is that every equipment comes with color-coding, which makes it easier to connect the cables to their respective ports. To connect your gateway:

  • Connect the Red ONT Ethernet Cable, the one connected to your Service Box, to the ONT Port on your Gateway.
  • Plug the Power Cable into the Power Port (outlet) on the Gateway and the other end into the Electrical Outlet.

You’ll notice additional Yellow Ports on the gateway. These are for connecting your devices directly to your gateway via a LAN connection. To connect one, simply use an Ethernet Cable (Yellow colored), and connect one end to one of the ports while the other end to your device.

Once you’ve connected all the cables and the gateway is powered on, wait for the lights to turn Solid Green.

Setting Up the Wi-Fi Connection

Once you’ve set up your gateway, it’s time to set up the Wi-Fi connection. To do this:

  • Open your device (PC, laptop, tablet)
  • Head to the Wireless Network Settings. You’ll find your gateway’s SSID (name) here.
    • If you can’t find the SSID, find it on the sticker attached to the gateway.
    • Use the password listed on the sticker to connect to the network.
  • Once connected, open your internet browser to register.
    • The registration portal will open automatically after you connect to the network.
    • If it doesn’t, visit com/Uverse and register.
  • Visit the Smart Home Manager through com/smarthomemanager to change the Wi-Fi settings of your network, and connect other devices as you like.
