The Death of a Music Legend: Chester Bennington of Linkin Park Dies at the Age of 41

Chester Bennington, frontman for the rock group Linkin Park, was found dead on Thursday, 20th July at the age of 41. Bennington hanged himself at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, L.A. County.

An employee discovered his body on Thursday morning around 9 AM. The death was confirmed by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and is being investigated further.

The world famous singer started his career with a band called Sean Dowdell and His Friends, later on, formed Grey Daze, and finally auditioned for Linkin Park (then called Xero). The band went on to produce massively successful music. Their album Hybrid Theory sold over 4.8 million copies during its debut year and the song “Crawling” won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.

Bennington had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and used his music as a means to express his inner turmoil. The lyrics of the band’s popular song “Crawling” from the album Hybrid Theory, clearly show how much Bennington was struggling at that time: “Crawling in my skin/These wounds they will not heal/Fear is how I fall/Confusing what is real”. The singer said this song was, “about feeling like I had no control over myself in terms of drugs and alcohol.” The years of struggle finally ended in tragedy yesterday with Bennington's suicide.

According to reports, Bennington was greatly affected by the recent suicide of his close friend, Chris Cornell. He posted the following message on his official Instagram account as a tribute.

Some sources are reporting that Bennington might have been depressed about losing his friend, eventually leading him to commit suicide on the day of Cornell’s birthday. In his final Australian interview, Bennington talked about his drug relapses and disturbing thoughts. He also described the lyrics of the latest album in the following words.
"If you read a lot of the lyrics it seems pretty depressing,"
Despite these troubles, Bennington remained optimistic about his career. Linkin Park released their seventh and latest album called “One More Light” last on 19th May 2017.
The tragic event has come as a huge shock to Linkin Park fans and the entire music community. Tributes continue to pour in from fellow musicians and friends.
Linkin band member, Mike Shinoda, confirmed the sad news on Twitter.

Mr. Bennington is survived by a wife and six children. The world of music lost a legend today. He’ll be missed by all his fans, friends, and family.

Rest in everlasting peace, Chester.
