Gone are the days when you had to call a technician to set-up the internet service for you. Nowadays, internet providers proactively offer self-installation. You can either get the equipment delivered to your home or you can pick it up directly from the store on the day of the order. This is a lot more convenient as self-installation saves you both time and money.

If you have opted for self-installation and looking for ways to set-up the internet, you have come to the right place. This article will explain all the steps to set-up your CenturyLink services.

CenturyLink Modem Set-up

There are two different types of modems you can get with CenturyLink internet:

  • Greenwave C4000 (XG and LG)
  • All other modems (tower or box)

If you have ordered a new internet service with CenturyLink internet and ordered C4000 or any other tower modem, there are some things you need to understand before completing the self-installation process.

The modem arrives in the mail on the day or before the day your service is scheduled. You can check all the details in the order confirmation details. You will receive the order status and tracking link in the email as well. The line gets activated before 5 p.m. on your start date and expects to receive the notification regarding the service activation. If the service isn’t activated even after setting up the equipment, you can do that by yourself.

Always find a central spot in your house and avoid placing it in the corners or closets to make sure that you get a uniform network strength throughout your home. Look for places that have good air circulation otherwise, excessive heat may cause electrical equipment to perform poorly.

CenturyLink Installation

Just follow the instructions to connect to CenturyLink internet.

What will you receive in the box?

  • Modem
  • Ethernet cables
  • Power cord
  • DSL cable (Comes only with C4000LG Model)

Greenwave C4000 set-up guide

Unpack the equipment and get ready to set it up. Before that, we recommend getting the My CenturyLink app on your phone. This application makes your life a lot easy and a great way to manage your services with CenturyLink. You can also access the CenturyLink services through your web browser. Follow these steps to set-up your modem:

Connect the power cord

Take out the power cord from the box. Plug its one end into a wall outlet and the other end on the back of your modem.

Connect the DSL cable

In case you have a C4000LG Modem, you have to plug the DSL cable in the Green DSL port on the back of your modem while the other end in a working phone jack. Other modems don’t have a DSL port.

Connect the Ethernet cable

Plug one end of your Ethernet cable into the Ethernet ports on the CenturyLink modem while the other end to your computer’s Ethernet port. In case, you only want to use the internet through Wi-Fi, there is no need to connect the Ethernet cable. Just use the login information on the bottom of your CenturyLink modem

Check indicator lights

Check the status light on the front of your modem. It changes its color as you move through the installation process. During the initial boot-up, the light turns Solid Blue once it establishes a connection

Conversely, the C4000LG has a status light located near the DSL port. While connecting to the internet, it turns blue and once the connection is established, it turns green.

What if the status light is red?

This means that your internet has not been activated yet. Try waiting until 5 P.m. If it still doesn’t work, there might be a problem with the phone jack. In that case, contact the CenturyLink customer service department.
